The Last Fishermen is an ongoing photographic and documentary project about the fishing community of Mola di Bari and the slow disappearance of a centuries-old knowledge.
The Last Fishermen è un progetto fotografico e documentario dedicato alla comunità dei pescatori di Mola di Bari e alla progressiva scomparsa di un sapere antico.
The Project
For over a decade, I have worked in close contact with fishermen, building trust and documenting their lives, their work, and their knowledge.
The photographic reportage, developed between 2023 and 2026, follows the entire cycle of their world: shipyards, nets, nights at sea, and the fish market at dawn.

Alongside it, a documentary film — The Last Fishermen — is currently in production, expanding the same narrative over a longer time span, with footage collected since 2012.
This work is not only about fishing.
It is about the disappearance of embodied knowledge, passed down through generations and now at risk of being lost forever.

Il Progetto
Per oltre dieci anni ho frequentato il porto costruendo relazioni e documentando da vicino la vita, il lavoro e il sapere dei pescatori.
Il reportage fotografico, sviluppato tra il 2023 e il 2026, segue l’intero ciclo del loro mondo: cantieri navali, reti, notti in mare e il mercato del pesce all’alba.

Accanto alle fotografie, è in produzione il documentario The Last Fishermen, girato tra il 2012 e il 2026, che amplia lo stesso racconto nel tempo.
Questo lavoro non riguarda solo la pesca.
Riguarda la scomparsa di un sapere che vive nei gesti e nei corpi, tramandato per generazioni e oggi a rischio di estinzione.
