Since 2024, I have been documenting the Drag Queen scene in Bari and its surrounding province, capturing both their public performances and the intimate moments behind the scenes. The project explores the vibrant world of drag artistry, photographing not only the shows themselves but also the preparation, makeup, costumes, and personal rituals that shape each performance.
Alongside the visual documentation, I investigate the personal stories, challenges, and identities of these artists, offering a nuanced portrait of their lives beyond the stage. This work also engages with the broader history of drag, tracing its roots as a form of self-expression, resistance, and theatricality that has evolved from underground communities to contemporary visibility. Through this ongoing reportage, I aim to reveal the creativity, resilience, and humanity that define this extraordinary community, highlighting both the spectacle and the personal journeys that fuel it.
